It can be difficult to explain why something doesn't feel right.
Often, there are reasons we become who we are.

What May Bring You To Therapy

Psychotherapist in Southsea & Online | Sarah Adele

You may have begun to notice…

You may already have a sense that something in your life needs closer attention. Or perhaps something has unsettled you unexpectedly, leaving you trying to understand why it has affected you so deeply.

Perhaps you notice yourself caught in patterns that are difficult to shift, despite wanting things to be different. Relationships become complicated. Decisions feel difficult to trust. Or a quiet sense of dissatisfaction continues in the background, even when much of life appears to be working.

Sometimes the difficulty is clear — anxiety, low mood, or a painful life event. At other times, the experience is harder to name. You may simply sense that there is more to understand about yourself, your relationships, or the life you are living.

What brings people to therapy

You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, self-doubt, or difficulties in relationships. You may feel caught in patterns that are hard to understand or change, disconnected from yourself, or increasingly dissatisfied with the life you are living.

Sometimes a particular event — loss, change, conflict, or a transition in life — has unsettled something important. At other times, the difficulty is less clear, but no less significant.

In therapy…

Therapy often begins with what feels most painful, urgent, or confusing, while gradually opening into a deeper understanding of yourself. Often, the very real difficulties that bring people to therapy point towards something less visible that needs closer attention and understanding.

Our work would involve developing a deeper understanding of what it means to be you — how you came to relate to yourself and others, the ways you have learned to live, and the kind of life you want to move towards.

Your Options

I offer weekly psychotherapy sessions, either face-to-face in Southsea and Portsmouth, or online. I work with adults from a wide range of backgrounds, and sessions take place in a private, confidential setting.

Some people come with a specific issue they want to focus on; others arrive with a more general sense of unease or a wish to understand themselves better. Therapy can be time-limited or longer-term, and this is something we can think about together in our early sessions and return to as the work develops.

Starting Out

Before beginning therapy, I offer a free 30-minute online call. This is an opportunity to meet briefly, talk about what has brought you here, and ask any questions you may have.

There is no expectation to decide anything during this call. It’s simply a chance to get a sense of how I work, and whether taking things further feels right for you.

Is This For Me?

You might be considering therapy because something in you wants more honesty, more room to think, or a different relationship with yourself and others — even if you’re not sure what that looks like yet.

This way of working suits people who are open to staying with questions for a while, and who are interested in understanding themselves more fully. If this feels relevant to you, you may find this work supportive.
